This type of certification relates to new, but unique or very low volume, gas appliances and is referred to as INDIVIDUAL COMPLIANCE APPROVAL (ICA). It is also commonly known within the industry as a "Second Tier Approval" and predominantly is associated with commercial catering equipment which is custom built or for which the volume sales do not warrant the use of a type tested scheme. A distinguishing feature of this type of certification is that it is limited to a lifetime maximum of 10 units of a single model of appliance with each unit typically requiring ICA assessment in the installed position. AGA's role is limited to receiving, processing and retaining the relevant ICA documentation, whilst the technical (on-site) assessment against set basic safety criteria is conducted by appropriately qualified personnel such as those employed by government gas technical regulator, Energy Safe Victoria. All States and Territories that use the ICA scheme rely upon qualified personnel within their respective locality. The costs associated with this type of certification are largely determined by the installation location, with addresses in more remote/distant areas likely to result in higher than normal fees. Furthermore, ICA costs may also be influenced by the number of a particular model to be installed at the same time. AGA fees are currently set at $220 plus GST per application (unless multiple appliances involved whereupon a quote will be provided for the AGA fee) with the on-site tester or testing agency quoting and invoicing separately for their charges, except in Victoria where such testing charges continue to be invoiced directly to AGA. Accordingly, in Victoria, AGA includes such testing costs in a single charge to the customer. Applicants of the ICA Scheme need to complete the current Application Form, which includes the collection of essential product specification details on the reverse side of the form. Essential ICA documentation is provided from this website in the form of an ICA Kit.
