NEW BODY FORMED: RECOGNISED ELECTRICAL APPROVAL BODIES

Back to List

« Previous Next »

Accredited Electrical Certifiers gather at AGA offices to discuss and sign MOU (3 June 2009).

Government Regulatory Authorities have mainly conducted electrical approvals in Australia – but in more recent times independent certification bodies have now been recognised by them.  These organisations, including AGA, have formed a group that has been named “Recognised Electrical Approvals Bodies”.

This group was formed to strengthen technical co-operation within a framework of common interest and values associated with certification of electrical equipment.  The group’s core values and principals include (i) uniformity, (ii) impartiality, (iii) competency and (iv) meeting regulatory and market requirements.

The key objectives of the group are to:

·         Work together to determine/maintain a common agreed position on a set of scheme rules/requirements to provide a uniform Certification Scheme for bodies providing certification of declared and non-declared articles;

·         Work together to ensure a common understanding of the accreditation requirements that apply to the Parties;

·         Work together to ensure a common understanding of the certification requirements that apply to the Parties’ clients;

·         Work together to ensure a common understanding of any technical issues that might arise through the certification of electrical product;

·         Work cooperatively with Electrical Safety Regulators through the Electrical Regulatory Authorities Council (ERAC);

·         Work cooperatively with Standards Australia;

·         Work cooperatively with JAS-ANZ;

·         Encourage co-operation in any other way that will further the promotion and understanding of JAS-ANZ accredited certification of electrical product.

As a sign of the group commitment to work together and achieve common goals, a “Memorandum of Understanding” was signed on the 3 June 2009 at the AGA office in Braeside, Melbourne.
