AGA is turning 100 this year and we are proud to be celebrating this milestone with the industry in November.
It all began in 1925 when gas was still new and often mistrusted. AGA was formed to ensure safety, trust and reliability to help Australians embrace this new energy source. Over the decades, we assisted with the transition from town gas to natural gas, introduced Australia’s first gas appliance Standards and pioneered energy efficiency programs. Together with our members we built Australia’s reputation as one of the safest countries in the world for gas appliances.
Today, AGA’s role extends far beyond gas. We certify plumbing products, cylinders, test stations and industrial Type B appliances, test whitegoods for performance and efficiency and ensure the safety of materials used in underground networks. This year we launched the AGA Training Institute to equip the next generation with practical and hands-on skills.
Our centenary event in November 2025 will feature Australia’s Chief Scientist as keynote speaker and James O’Loghlin as MC, with AGA members, regulators, industry leaders and international guests attending.
As this is a private, invitation-only celebration, please get in touch with events@aga.asn.au to enquire about attending. Please note that places are limited and we may not be able to accommodate every request.
Connecting Hydrogen APAC 2025 Success
AGA was proud to partner with Connecting Hydrogen APAC 2025 (CHA 2025), the largest hydrogen event in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region, held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. The conference brought together more than five thousand people, including energy ministers, CEOs and industry leaders, along with hundreds of exhibitors showcasing the latest in hydrogen innovation.
The program featured insights from over one hundred and fifty experts from across the globe, covering topics such as policy, production, supply chains, infrastructure, green mobility and green steel. Delegates enjoyed a wide range of networking opportunities, from one-on-one meetings and technical panels through to the Regional Development Forum, which explored clean energy investment across Australia.
At the Gala Dinner, the Minister for Climate Action, Energy and Resources, Lily D’Ambrosio spoke to guests about the importance of hydrogen in Australia’s energy transition.
CHA 2025 was a tremendous success and AGA was proud to be part of it. Our partnership helped showcase the importance of collaboration and innovation as we work towards a safe, sustainable energy future.
GTRC Technical Guidance Bulletins Published
The Gas Technical Regulators Committee (GTRC) has released two new Technical Guidance Bulletins to provide clarity for Conformity Assessment Bodies on the application of gas appliance standards.
Bulletin 29 – AS/NZS 5263.0 Standard Transition
The transition timeline for appliances certified to AS/NZS 5263.0:2017 moving to AS/NZS 5263.0:2023 has been deferred. Appliances may continue to remain certified to the 2017 version until the revised Scheme Rules are published, at which time a new transition date will be confirmed
For domestic cookers with air circulating fans, the new temperature test in AS/NZS 5263.0:2023 (Clause 5.4.8) does not apply. An alternative test method is being developed under AS/NZS 5263.1.1, and until then, the clause is not required for certification
